What are the chances of getting pancreatic cancer if my great grandpa had it?

Question by veljko b: What are the chances of getting pancreatic cancer if my great grandpa had it?
All in the title. It kind of worries me but i’m just not sure how it would be passed through the family. He was the first in the family to ever get it. My dads side didn’t have any cases of cancer but it was my moms moms dad (Great grandpa).

Thanks a bunch,
Veljko

Was he a smoker? it is 2 – 3 times more common in smokers than non-smokers.

Diabetes also increases the risk.

There is a higher risk of developing this if it runs in your family (tends to be grouped with ovarian and coloc cancer risk) but a single case does not make this a family risk.

Age is a big risk factor so if he was over 65 when diagnosed it is less likely to be a genetic tendency.

If his was the inherited form, your grandmother has a 1 in 2 chance of inheriting the tendency, your mother a 1 in 4 chance and you have a 1 in 8 chance!

What may be the cure for cancer finally found?

Question by limouggy: What may be the cure for cancer finally found?
Doctors have just discovered a cure for metastatic melanoma. A type of skin cancer. Basically, the doctors genetically re-engineered the AID cell to kill cancer cells. The HIV/AID cell does NOT infect the subject, but only seeks out cancer cells.

My dad died from metastatic melanoma, so I thought I’d do some research.

Now, this is still under testing.. So my question to you is, do you think this will work?

Honestly I think they already have a cure but there is more money in treating the disease than “curing” it. Do you realize that no disease can live in an oxygen rich environment? Even when patients have stage 4 ( terminal ) they still treat cancer. Why? Money that’s why!!

What tips can you give to survive cancer?

Question by osunumberonefan: What tips can you give to survive cancer?
If you are a cancer surviver, please list how you survived it. What tips would you give to other people who are fighting the condition? What advise would you give to others who are struggling to come to terms with their condition or just need someone to talk to?

Best answer:

Answer by dizynman
Really its genetics and the overall state of health you were in to begin with. I have heard that diet plays a HUGE role in stimulating the immune system to fight. It also depends the stage it was caught and the treatment too. Look at Lance Armstrong. I truly believe his state of health, diet along with meds saved him.

Best answer:

Answer by Samantha S
thats normal
when your young like 15, you may notice your breasts are lumpy, its just because they are growing
if i was you i wouldnt be too worried but maybe if you go to the doctor they can tell you for sure
but i doubt you have breast cancer
dont worry, its just puberty and hormones that make breasts kind of lumpy

Is extreme fatigue a symptom of cancer, or just what happens during cancer treatment?

Question by Sarah: Is extreme fatigue a symptom of cancer, or just what happens during cancer treatment?
If you have cancer of any kind, would extreme fatigue be a symptom of that? Or are you just severely fatigued once you begin treatment? I know chemo and radiation takes a major toll on the body and that of course causes fatigue, but could you feel that way before you even find out you have cancer?? Thanks in advance.

Often you become rundown first by a simple cold or flu, stress, old age – then cancer takes it’s opportunity to strike.
Happened to relatives.
