I am getting ready to pay back my Sallie Mae student loans and they are expecting me to pay approximately $ 500 per month for my private loan. The only other alternative they gave me for a lower monthly payment was the Interest Only option, which I have heard is a horrible choice. Given today’s economic condition and the difficulty of college graduates finding jobs, I don’t know how they can expect people like myself to pay $ 500 per month. Are there any private consolidation companies out there right now that can significantly lower my monthly payment?

Wells Fargo might be the only one worthwhile these days. Look for ones that have little or no origination fees and have reductions if the money you owe is periodically auto-deposited.

I’m planning on not taking out any loans. Right now i’m 18 years old, a senior in high school, and i have $ 16,500 saved. I also only have to pay for a third of my college and my parents pay for the rest. So what percent of students have to take out loans for college. Am i in a better situation that most other people?

Definitely in a better situation than I was in as a senior in HS.
But, that 16,500 will go fast.
A majority of kids going to college take out loans..
its nearly impossible to do so without them for most of us, unless you’re lucky enough to have it paid for.

My fiance and I are beginning the steps to planning a wedding. We have budgeted $ 6,000 for the event. We have additional that could be used if needed. My concern is that combined we have about $ 11,000 dollars in credit card/medical debt. Do we say the heck with it and have the wedding or go to court house and pay off most of the debt??
