Asbestos Risks for Home Renovators

Posted on 30. Nov, 2012 by in Home

With the economic climate in the UK being the way it is and more and more people finding it extremely difficult to take their first step onto the property ladder, many people are beginning to use home renovation as a more cost effective way of getting their first home. Home renovation, can include everything from simple painting and new bathroom fixtures, to a complete property overhaul, with walls knocked through and windows replaced.

Home renovation allows people to purchase a property which they can afford and is within their budget, then renovate and improve with a budget that suits them. This can be done over a time period which works with their jobs and life styles.

However, there are some people within the home renovation and asbestos awareness fields that fear that many home renovators are putting themselves at risk of exposure to asbestos.  They are not home improvement experts and may be taking risks when renovating their homes in ways which may expose asbestos they were not aware was there, putting their health at risk.

Asbestos can often be found in homes which were built before the mid-1980’s and these buildings are some of the most popular amongst people looking for properties to renovate.

Asbestos can cause a number of dangerous and life threatening respiratory diseases; however, there is now legislation in place in the UK for those who have suffered due to asbestos exposure and they can now claim asbestos compensation for their suffering.
